When we choose our outfit, most of us tend to focus much on the main elements like the suits or the blazers but ignore the other elements like the ties, pocket squares and more. But a perfect outfit should be perfect in all aspects. Also you might be surprised on how much the people tend to notice these accessories. One among these important accessories are the belts. Most of us would think that the belts do not need much attention since they tend to get buried under all the layers of the pants, shirts and present the jackets. But when you want the outfit to be great then you have to pay attention to it too. In this article, we discuss about the mens belts and the styles available in the market.
You already know that the main purpose of the belts is to hold the pants in place. But in recent times, we have been seeing every element serving only the aesthetic purpose. For example, like topcoats some people tend to wear the belts only for the fashionable purpose. Whichever the reason, it is important that you know about the belts and the styles available before you make the choice.
Before we go into the details of the mens belts and it’s types, we have to acknowledge the population who simply avoid wearing belts. Belts aren’t a mandatory accessory unless the need arises. But there are instances where the belts are better to be worn. For example if you are going with the suits then it might be a better choice to wear the belts since it amplifies the formal look of the outfit. Other than this, it would be better for you to wear the belts when there are belt loops present on the pants that you wear. The belt loops without the belt can make your outfit look incomplete.
As for the history of the belts, it’s use can be traced back as far as to the bronze age. But it’s use started to be utilitarian. The belts were worn by men so that they could carry tools and weapons with them. Leather belts were very popular among men in the Greek and Roman military. This was because of the leather’s flexibility which offered them a better range of movement and also some level of protection.
Other than being used in military, the belts were also considered a fashionable accessory in the early times too. They were even used by some civilizations for dream interpretation and sealing alliances. The color of the belts were also used to indicate the skill level of the boxing champions.
In the 19th century, the mens belts were used both for functional and decorative purposes. The iconic V shape physique was popular then and people tried to achieve it by pairing the big pants with the belts. Some even went as far as to exaggerate the look by adding in a corset. As for women, they started wearing belts much later than men but when it started it was mostly for utilitarian purposes. They used it to carry their bags and fans. This carried on till they started wearing trousers in the 1930s and then the belts were then used to serve their original purpose.
Now when it comes to mens belts, there are a lot of styles available in the market. For example, you can use a different belt for the formal style and then for the casual style. Depending on the style that you want you can make the choice. The material from which the belts are made is one important detail that you should note while purchasing the belts.
Usually the leather belts are the ones that are most recommended since they are the most popular and durable too. These leather belts are made from the calfskin and they can be worn for both the formal and casual settings. But when you need a style that could work for the special occasions, then you should think of going with the exotic skin belts. These come with higher price tag than the usual leather belts but offer a sophisticated look. Make sure that you choose the authentic ones.
Belvedere alligator dress belt is one of the most sought after choice among all the exotic skin belts. They are also the rarest and thus have a high price tag. Other than belvedere you can also check out mensmezlan Alligator belt. If you love the Alligator style but want a similar look at a cheaper style then mezlan crocodile dress belt is the best choice. The caiman crocodile dress belts tend to have a similar look as the Alligator belts but with subtle changes. These changes would only be visible if you pay attention closely.
Another choice that is best for the people who are looking for a durable choice that can last you for decades then we would suggest you go with mezlan ostrich dress belt. Ostrich leather is considered to be one of the strongest leathers available and there are options like the ostrich quill dress belt and ostrich patchwork dress belt. Each offers a different kind of look and thus it is best if you learn about it more before you make the choice. There are a also various styles of Belvedere ostrich dress belts available.
While these are the most common exotic skin belts that people prefer there are also other choices like mezlan deerskin dress belts and Belvedere eel skin belts. The thing with the exotic skin belts is that they offer a patterned look that is different from the soft style of the calfskin leather belts and thus attract attention. If you are not going with the leather belts, then you can choose the woven suede dress belts. These offer a softer and more fashionable look than the formal leather belts. If you are a person who is against using animal leather then you can choose faux leather belts.
Belts are one of the most underrated accessories that we often do not take seriously. Belts are functional accessories that are seldom noticed by the viewers. Thus selecting a belt might be a mindless action for you till now but remember that every detail matters in delivering the best outfit. Make sure to take some time in knowing about the different styles of the mens belts available and then make your pick. In this article we intend to inform you with almost everything that you need to know about the mens belts.
Belts started out as accessories that held up the pants for the suit wearers. This was a time when the men dressed to hide their body line. But the fit of the suits has progressed a great deal now and there is no need for an extra accessory to hold the pants up. Belts on the other hand have become a standard addition without which the outfit might look incomplete. Thus if you are choosing to go with the formal styles like the suits then it would be a better choice to include belts to your outfit.
History of the belts
Before we venture into the details of the mens belts styles and the appropriate styling, it might be great to learn about the history associated with it. The first recorded usage of the belts goes way back to the bronze age. This was a time when the man was evolving in the technological field and naturally the clothing style also improved.
The belts for men started out as an utilitarian style and was mostly used to carry tools or weapons. These are better known as military girdles rather than a belt. With time the leather belts came into use and became very popular among the Roman and Greek military. This was because of the fact that the soft leather was comfortable to wear and the flexibility of the leather lead to more freedom of movement.
In some other cultures, the belts were also used for dream interpretation! The Mongolians used to exchange belts in sign of sealing an alliance. The Franks used to surrender when the enemy captured their belt during the fighting. Even today, with the fighting sports the color of the belt is used to signify the skill of the person wearing it.
As the belts entered the 19th century, they were mostly decorative but also has their functional purposes. This was the time when the V shape was preferred on the person and as a result people wore very tight belts over their clothes to emphasize the smallness of their waist. Soon the obsession gave rise to the corsets which are rarely used today. Mostly the pants were worn high on the waist and only in the mid 19th century the waistline of the pants lowered and the belt loops were created.
Today the belts have become an essential part of our outfit. There are various styles of the belts in today’s time and there is a style for everyone. You could be choosing the belts to be worn with formal garments but there are also casual styles. The choice depends on your taste and the type of outfit that you are choosing. Usually the leather belts are the most preferred choice but there are also belts that are made from other materials. Thus it would be best if you get to know about the various mens belts collections before you decide on a style. This way you will have more exposure and also create a great look for your outfit.
