One of the staple garments when it comes to mens and also women's wardrobe is the coats. Coats are the outerwear garments that are worn over the outfits for various reasons. When the coats style started out they were worn as to ward off the cold and keep the wearer warm even under the harsh winters. The mens topcoats are not very different from the overcoats and this causes a widespread confusion among the men who are not very well versed with the styles available in the market. So let's make this clear first. What makes the topcoats different from the overcoats? The difference is very simple to see and understand. The overcoats are long coats that are worn over the clothing to protect the wearer from the cold and wind. Hence, these overcoats are made from heavy materials like wool, fur, leather or tweed. On the contrary the topcoats do not have the above said purpose like the overcoats and hence are made from lighter materials. Hence, it may be right to say to some extent that the topcoats are lightweight overcoats.

The thing with overcoats is that they are made of thick materials like wool top coat and fur and thus have excellent insulation properties. This in turn means that you can forget wearing these garments in the warmer months like the summer and the spring. Thus, you need to keep in mind the weather at your place and the need of yours before selecting the type of coat. For example if you live in a country where the winters are harsh and the temperature drops to a freezing one then it may be best for you to get the thick overcoats that you will keep you warm throughout the season. But if you live in a country or a place with mild winters which you can manage then it may be a smart option for you to go with the topcoats. This is because during the winters you can wear the topcoats and if you still aren't warm can pair it with layers and then get through the season. And when the summer or the spring comes you can use the same mens topcoat and use it as a fashionable garment thus making the best use of the money that you spent on it. Therefore, depending on your place and the needs you can select the garment which gives you the most versatile option.
As for the mens long topcoats they are usually made from the fabrics that weighs to about 500 g per meter or lesser than that. In the recent times even this weight of the fabric is considered to be a heavyweight since lighter fabrics are invented in the modern world. If you are a person who keeps an eye on fashion and also likes to try out new styles then the mens topcoat is the best option for you. Every man should contain at least one mens topcoat in their wardrobe to get through the spring and summer season.
